Subject: The joyous ending to a rescue saga :) Some of you may remember my frantic post to the list several days ago, looking for transport assistance to help get two homeless schnauzers from Arlington, VA to their new home in northern New Jersey.  Thanks go out to those list members who volunteered to help, especially on a holiday weekend!  (Also to those of you who forwarded the message -- we even had beagle and chiuahua rescuers volunteering to help!)  I also have to sing the praises of several members of my rescue group for going way above and beyond -- I am honored to be associated with such a dedicated group of people!

Harry and Sally (photo attached) arrived safe and sound at their new home this afternoon, after a marathon 6 1/2 hour pony express type trip, passing through the loving hands of four rescue volunteers (with the assistance of some of their children, who went along for the ride!).

Below are excerpts from the final chapter of the story.  Although rescue can be a real roller coaster ride, this kind of ending is what makes it all worth while!

From NJSRN member Jody:
Well, there are two very happy little dogs and one INCREDIBLY happy lady today : - )  Harry and Sally are just toooo cute and so easy to handle.  Long day for them : -)  I kept petting them and talking to them.  Harry would nudge me when I stopped, then would close his eyes, with his head UP, when I started again.  They are absolute little angels!

We got to Millicent's, I rang her bell, and when she opened the door she started crying when she saw them : - ) she was sooo happy that she had dogs in the house again.  Harry and Sally started exploring her house immediately and let me tell you . . . these 2 are going to have some life!  Millicent's house is almost a SHRINE to her previous dogs!  She had a poodle named Mimi and a schnauzer named Ollie.  She has portraits, pictures, and statues galore of them!  (I am not exaggerating.)  She kept showing me pictures of Mimi and Ollie, and her deceased husband.  She had more pictures of the dogs though LOL.  She even had the picture of Harry & Sally with Santa Claus up already!  (That picture does not do them justice--they are much cuter in person.)  She already has tons of toys, leashes, etc.  While I was there, a friend of hers called and asked if "they" were there yet.  By the time I was getting ready to leave, two little doggie tail-stubs were going a mile a minute : - )

When I left (after an hour), she was walking them. While we were outside, a woman drove by and said, "Millicent -- I heard they were coming.  They are soooo cute!"  As I was leaving, she said she had to give me a schnauzer hug and thanked everyone for waiting until this weekend so she could spend Thanksgiving with her family and for doing this today.

NJSRN ladies -- we did a very good thing today.  As Millicent said, "Now my home is a home again."
