| My name is Sue Webel and I've been working for about 4
years with Miniature Schnauzer Rescue Service of New England. Late last
fall I also started getting involved somewhat with New Jersey Schnauzer
Rescue Network. I try to work as a laison between the two groups.
I live just south of Hartford, CT. which is about halfway between NJ and
Boston. Both groups were already established when I started
working with them. The majority of dogs we handle are purebred
mini schnauzers. NJSRN seems to handle a fair amount of mini
mixes-we get very few in MSRSNE. The majority of my work with rescue has been transport. I do some fostering when needed. We *generally* have more homes than dogs so just about all fosters are short term. Since joining NJSRN I've gotten more exposure to reviewing adoption applications and screening potential new homes. Next Saturday I'm going to participate in my first rescue expo which is being organized by the Ledyard, CT animal control. What do I wish for? I wish there was a way we could ban pet stores from selling puppies so we could put the puppy mills out of business. I wish everyone who owned a pet accepted it as a lifetime commitment.
